Surfactant-dependent contact line dynamics and droplet spreading on textured substrates: Derivations and computations

چکیده
We study spreading of a droplet, with insoluble surfactant covering its capillary surface, on textured substrate. In this process, the surfactant-dependent surface tension dominates behaviors whole dynamics, particularly moving contact lines. This allows us to derive full dynamics droplets laid by surfactant: (i) lines, (ii) evolution (iii) boundary condition at lines and (iv) incompressible viscous fluids inside droplet. Our derivations base Onsager’s principle Rayleigh dissipation functionals for either flow or motion mean curvature surface. also prove functional case is stronger than one curvature. After incorporating substrate profile, we design numerical scheme based unconditionally stable explicit updates grids, which enable efficient computations many challenging examples showing significant impacts deformation droplets.

Droplet spreading on chemically heterogeneous substrates.
Consider the spreading dynamics of a two-dimensional droplet over chemically heterogeneous substrates. Assuming small slopes and strong surface tension effects, a long-wave expansion of the Stokes equations yields a single evolution equation for the droplet thickness. The contact line singularity is removed by assuming slip at the liquid-solid interface. The chemical nature of the substrate is ...
متن کاملActive mechanics and dynamics of cell spreading on elastic substrates.
The spreading area of cells has been shown to play a central role in the determination of cell fate and tissue morphogenesis; however, a clear understanding of how spread cell area is determined is still lacking. The observation that cell area and force generally increase with substrate rigidity suggests that cell area is dictated mechanically, by means of a force-balance between the cell and t...
متن کاملDifferential dynamics of platelet contact and spreading.
Platelet spreading is critical for hemostatic plug formation and thrombosis. However, the detailed dynamics of platelet spreading as a function of receptor-ligand adhesive interactions has not been thoroughly investigated. Using reflection interference contrast microscopy, we found that both adhesive interactions and PAR4 activation affect the dynamics of platelet membrane contact formation dur...
متن کاملEffect of contact line dynamics on the thermocapillary motion of a droplet on an inclined plate.
We study the two-dimensional dynamics of a droplet on an inclined, nonisothermal solid substrate. We use lubrication theory to obtain a single evolution equation for the interface, which accounts for gravity, capillarity, and thermo-capillarity, brought about by the dependence of the surface tension on temperature. The contact line motion is modeled using a relation that couples the contact lin...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional droplet spreading over random topographical substrates.
We examine theoretically the effects of random topographical substrates on the motion of two-dimensional droplets via statistical approaches, by representing substrate families as stationary random functions. The droplet shift variance at both early times and in the long-time limit is deduced and the droplet footprint is found to be a normal random variable at all times. It is shown that substr...
